    1. Diabetes is a silent epidemic and according to WHO there are 246 million people in the world living with diabetes. This is almost 6% of the world's adult population.

    2. Diabetes inAsians is five timesthe rate of the white population

    3. India is the diabetes capital of the world. It is estimated that currently there are 40 million people with diabetes in India and by 2025 this number will swell to 70 million. This would mean every fifth diabetic in the world would be an Indian.

    4.Central obesity or apple shape of the body and insulin resistance is the main reason for diabetes increase in Indians

    5. Diabetes causes 6 deaths every minute and one in 20 deaths in the world is due to the condition. Every year it is estimated that 3.2 million people in the world die due to the diabetes or its related causes.

    6. Diabetes is an important 'silent killer disease' as there is usually no early symptom of the disease. The commonest early symptom is feeling thirsty

    7. Almost 90 to 95% of diabetes is of type 2 or maturity onset type; that affects people in their middle age. Type 1 or juvenile diabetes affects 70,000 children under the age of 15 years every year.

    8. The major cause of increase in the incidence of diabetes is a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise and diet can either reduce or delay the incidence of diabetes by over 50%.

    9. Diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure in the world. Besides this every year it is responsible for 5% or 5 million blindness in adults and one million limb amputations. Diabetes is also an important cause of heart disease, stroke and cataract.

    10. The current cost of treating diabetes and its complications in the world is estimated as US $ 215-375 billion. The disease is growing fastest in developing countries where there are more people in the lower and middle-income group.

  2. AGM Koperasi Diabetes 2012

    Koperasi Diabetes had an AGM last december at Seri Duta 1,KL in conjuction of our 2nd year of establishment. New board members was elected and we also add a few more people to become our AJK. These changes were made due to the growing number of activities that is going to happen this year. These are some of the pictures. Enjoy

  4. World Diabetes Day Walkathon 2012

    On the 11th of November, we join the World Diabetes Day Walkathon at Dataran Merdeka, KL. Almost 5000 people join the walkathon. Even though it was set early in the morning, the people of KL and Klang Valley made an effort to support the event. We met few people who are suffering from Diabetes that join the walkathon. These are some of the pictures we took while we were there.

  5. Hi guys, the other day we went to Sunway Pyramid where the World Diabetes Day"Let's Take 5!" was held. We can see that various companies took part in the event promoting and offering Diabetes products.Company such as Abbot, Equal, Nestle and Sunway Medical Centre was there too. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Jeffrey Cheah was there to commemorate the event. These are some of the pictures we took.

    Eyes




    Diabetes can affect your eyes greatly. Diabetes is the leading reason of blindness in adults.

    Kidneys


    If you have diabetes, you should control your blood sugar or you could have kidney failure or kidney cancer.

    Feet


    Diabetes can lead to feet being cut off or your foot turning purple because of circulation problems.




  11. We visited the famous Bazaar event in Rasta, TTDI. We approach few people to talk about our campaign. We received good feedback from them and here's some of our pictures of the event.

  12.  On the 12th of september, all the disabled children from the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were invited to visit Menara Kuala Lumpur observation deck for free in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2012. The event was sponsored by Sekolah Yaakob Latif and Menara Kuala Lumpur. 30 schools, and 1500 children participated this event.
