  2. The recommended sleeping hour for an adult is 7-9 hours per night.

Studies have shown that oversleeping can indeed cause a host of nasty side effects for those that do it for a long period of time. People that sleep more than nine hours per night have shown to be 50% more likely to suffer from diabetes. Diabetes are not the only medical problem due to oversleeping, headache, back problems, and obesity are also the side effects from oversleeping

  4. Fun Facts: Top Celebrities With Diabetes

    Thursday, 16 August 2012

You think you know your favourite celebs?

They might look healthy and picture perfect.

Shockingly quite a number of them were diagnosed with Diabetes.

    Check this out.

    Halle Berry

Our favourite cat woman, Halle Berry was diagnosed with diabetes at age 22, after she became ill and slipped into a weeklong coma. Forget the gossip that Berry had "weaned" herself from insulin and switched from type 1 to type 2 diabetes... that's impossible. She said that she keeps the disease under control through a healthy diet and regular exercise.

    Randy Jackson

American Idols judge, Randy Jackson diagnosed with diabetes type 2 on 2002 when he taught he was minor cold or some sort of "flu". A wake up call for him indeed, he lost 100 pounds, improved his diet, and made exercise, including walking on a treadmill and practicing yoga as a staple of his life

    Salma Hayek

Actress Salma Hayek had gestational diabetes, a type of diabetes that happens during pregnancy, while pregnant with her daughter, Valentina. Hayek has a family history of diabetes. Almost all women are screened for gestational diabetes when they are 24-28 weeks pregnant; high-risk women may be screened earlier. Gestational diabetes usually goes away after pregnancy, but it raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes or getting gestational diabetes again.

    Chaka Khan

Music legend Chaka Khan, 59, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2011. She has said that her diagnosis quickly promoted her to take stock of her life and healthand begin making changes for the better. Since learning she has the disease, the Queen of Funk has shed an incredible 60 pounds, thanks to an extreme mostly liquid, vegan diet.

    Larry King

He’s one of the most well-known television interviewers alive. "It's definitely controllable," King has said on his show. Diabetes makes heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious health problems more likely.

    Sherri Shepherd

The actress and co-host of "The View" credits her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis with motivating her to lose excess weight". "My mom died of diabetes complications when she was 41," Shepherd told Fitness Magazine. "When I was 40, my doctor told me, 'I don't know when you're going to have a stroke, but it's going to happen.'"After that conversation, Shepherd worked hard on her fitness and diet program and lost a reported 10 inches off her waist in just three months.

    Elliot Yamin

A standout singer who finished in third place on the fifth season of American Idol, Elliott Yamin was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in his mid-teens. Yamin has told interviewers that he was angry, embarrassed, and in denial about his diabetes back then. But Yamin, who wears an insulin pump, has matured into a role model for young adults with diabetes. In a 2007 interview with Parade, Yamin encouraged diabetes patients to "stay positive and don't let the disease hold you back."

    Nick Jonas

Singer Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers went public with his type 1 diabetes in 2007. He has said that his symptoms included weight loss and thirst. When diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, his blood sugar was over 700 normal blood sugar levels are from 70 to 120. Jonas was hospitalized and learned to manage his type 1 diabetes. Once called juvenile diabetes, type 1 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes among people younger than 20, but it can strike at any age.

People often think that type 2 diabetes strikes only the overweight and sedentary, or unhealthy eaters. Truth is, anyone can be diagnosed with diabetes, even world-class athletes, or the rich and famous. The above celebrities all had some risk factors for diabetes (such as weight, ethnicity, or family history), but many were still shocked to hear the diagnosis. They’ve all made healthy changes in their lives, and many now speak out about the dangers of type 2 diabetes. YOU SHOULD TOO.

  5. Personal Care Products

    Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Many people thought that diabetes is only caused by eating sweet foods. Using beauty products can also increase the risk of having diabetes, especially woman. Many of the personal care products we use each day contain chemicals called Phthalates. A recent study shows that phthalates may increase the risk of diabetes in woman.

    Beauty products that contains phthalates:

     Moisturizer

    Eyeshadow

    Nail Polish

    Soap

    Hairspray

    Perfume

  6. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

    Tuesday, 14 August 2012

Hi guys! As you all know Raya is coming and I'm excited too! I'm sure all you have your check list from head to toe right?? From your hair, clothes, shoes and the list goes on. You're going to be heading to a lot of open houses I'm sure but there's one problem. YOUR DIET! There goes our diet and not forgetting our sugar and calorie intake. There is gonna be a lot of sugary and high calories food in these open houses and you need to watch out what you eat and drink.

Try to lessen your 'Kuih Raya' intake as these are the enemies!

Do not drink too much of sweet drinks. Try to ask for plain water if possible.

The best is to bring your own bottle water and drink as much as you can when you ate too much sweet food and drinks during Raya. Who can resist the delicious treats right, especially during this festive season.

We want to wish all Muslims out there Selamat Hari Raya. Maaf Zahir & Batin.
Have a safe journey back to your Kampung :)
